چکیده

Abstract INTRODUCTION Adult midline gliomas are rare entities, with a scarcity of available clinical data. These patients have variable courses, limited evidence to predict outcomes. Emerging suggests that biomolecular profiles may play significant role in outcomes, so tissue diagnosis is key component management. However, the cytoreductive therapy, such as Laser Interstitial Thermal Therapy (LITT) remains unknown. To date, only few studies described use MRI-guided LITT for managing gliomas. OBJECTIVE present retrospective analysis single-center two-surgeon experience treating adult either biopsy/LITT or biopsy alone. METHODS Patients intraxial tumors surgically treated at our tertiary care referral center were identified using established database. Twenty-one managed needle from 2015 2021 included. Demographics and records including, among others, length hospital stay, preoperative lesion size, ablation volume, perioperative complications, adjuvant treatment, stratified overall survival (OS) collected. RESULTS The two cohorts composed 7 who underwent LITT, 14 biopsies. mean age was 60.95y (25-82). average tumor volumes 16.99 cm3 15.41 biopsy, respectively. No post-surgical complications found group, one patient had postsurgical hemorrhage after biopsy. OS 20.28 ± 9.63 months which greater but not statistically than group (11.05 4.45 months) (p = 0.605). CONCLUSION Our results show safe treatment gliomas, offer benefit given its properties.

The value of using a brain laser interstitial thermal therapy (LITT) system in patients presenting with high grade gliomas where maximal safe resection may not be feasible

BACKGROUND The objective of this analysis was to determine the value (incremental cost/increment benefit) of a brain LITT system versus employing current surgical options recommended by NCCN guidelines, specifically open resection (i.e. craniotomy) methods or biopsy (collectively termed CURRENT TREATMENTS) in patients where maximal safe resection may not be feasible. As has been demonstrated in...

Stereotactic vacuum-assisted breast biopsy: our experience and comparison with stereotactic automated needle biopsy.

OBJECTIVES To evaluate and compare the outcome of stereotactically guided percutaneous, directional, vacuum-assisted breast biopsy (VAB) with the outcome of those performed with 14-gauge automated gun. METHODS Between January 2008 and January 2011, altogether 257 stereotactic biopsies were performed in our institute; 193 with the 14-gauge automated needle and 64 with a directional, vacuum-ass...

Radiation therapy in paediatric gliomas: our institutional experience.

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE The aim of our retrospective study was to analyze the clinical outcome of paediatric glioma patients treated with radiation therapy (RT) in our institution. MATERIAL AND METHODS We retrieved the case records of all children with gliomas (age < 18 years) who received RT in our department between 2004 and 2007. We analyzed the information regarding patients' demography, c...

A Single-Center Cost Analysis of Treating Primary and Metastatic Brain Cancers with Either Brain Laser Interstitial Thermal Therapy (LITT) or Craniotomy

BACKGROUND Brain laser interstitial thermal therapy (LITT) under magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) guidance has recently gained US clinical approval for the ablation of soft, neurological tissue. LITT is a minimally invasive alternative to craniotomy. OBJECTIVE While safety and efficacy are the focus of most current LITT studies, it is unclear how acute care costs (inpatient care ± aftercare) ...

Stereotactic laser ablation of high-grade gliomas. - PubMed - NCBI

Evolving research has demonstrated that surgical cytoreduction of a high-grade glial neoplasm is an important factor in improving the prognosis of these difficult tumors. Recent advances in intraoperative imaging have spurred the use of stereotactic laser ablation (laser interstitial thermal therapy [LITT]) for intracranial lesions. Among other targets, laser ablation has been used in the focal...
